House renovations or BTC

Hey everyone.

I would like to firstly say thank you. You have all made DCAing and this bear market quite enjoyable. I wouldn’t be able to do it without your hilarious comments, memes and wisdom.

That being said, I’ve been able to hodl a decent amount of BTC. I will likely buy for the rest of my life as it is my preferred money.

The problem I’m facing right now is that I might be buying a house soon. My wife and I have $10,000 for renovations, however, we would like to do more work on the house. Would you, if you were in my shoes, sell BTC to fund some of the Renovations? Im not talking all or even half. Just enough to have a bit more cash ($5000-8000).

Binance

Is Binance the next FTX? Does this happen in any other free market when a coin issued by an exchange can buy its next biggest competitor 5 times over? Coinbase market cap is 7.55B and BNB is @ 43B? I get that Coinbase is mostly US and Binance is mostly rest of US. But does this even make sense if not for obvious price manipulation at catastrophic levels? Can anyone explain this to me as totally I’m missing something?

Cost of fiat transaction fees are becoming a nuisance to people. Once people understand that bitcoin will be the cheapest way to transact, that is what will drive adoption.

If a wallet is created with a passphrase, what happens if it is recovered to a platform that does not support passphrases?

Title pretty much.

My current hardware wallet does not support passphrases but I am looking to get one that does. Anyway, does the passphrase just apply all across the blockchain?

Bitcoin History: Who was James A. Donald? The man who predicted the Lightning Network and Fedimint

James A. Donald was an anonymous Canadian cypherpunk.

He was among the first people to critique Satoshi’s white paper and theories. Donald argued with Satoshi about scaling on more than one occasion and detailed that he believed Bitcoin needed a layer of account. “We will need a layer of account money on top of the bitcoins, supporting transactions of a hundred-thousandth the size of the smallest coin, and to support anonymity, Chaumian money on top of the account money,” Donald wrote on November 8, 2008.

On November 17, 2008, Nakamoto sent Donald the Bitcoin source code for his review. “I sent you the main files (available by request at the moment, full release soon).”

Here is the original email correspondence between Satoshi and James A. Donald on November 17, 2008.

Within a week of the Bitcoin whitepaper being published, Hal Finney also talked about the idea building protocols like Lightning and Fedimint on top of bitcoin arguing for “building light-weight anonymous payment schemes on top of heavy-weight non-anonymous systems, so Bitcoin could be leveraged to allow for anonymity even beyond the mechanisms discussed in the paper.

Other notable cypherpunks who believed in layering protocols are Nick Szabo and Adam Back.
