Finally gave in and bought BTC (the real BTC haha)

After months of lurking and seeing cases being made for the validity of Bitcoin Cash, I decided to put in a little amount just to have a taste. The speed, the transaction fees, it all feels....sexy.

Thanks to all y'all crazy SOBs who converted this bitcoin truther into someone who loves BCH..cheers...

Some of us already knew that Bitcoin Cash has been constantly under attacked for the last 5 years. Who is funding all these propaganda, censorships, bots, trolls, etc to undermine Bitcoin Cash?

Charles Mackay, 1814-1889, wrote Extraordinary Popular Delusions & The Madness of Crowds, a book I highly recommend, a must-read today. Also of note, "No Enemies" - "He who has mingled in the fray...must have made foes! If you have none, small is the work you have done." - Michael Burry ( Source: https://twitter.com/michaeljburry/status/1362930185843077120 )

No wonder that Bitcoin Cash has been constantly under attacked the last 5 years by...

1a) censorships - https://medium.com/@johnblocke/a-brief-and-incomplete-history-of-censorship-in-r-bitcoin-c85a290fe43

1b) propaganda - https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adambalm/in-2013-peter-todd-was-paid-off-by-a-government-intelligence-agent-to-create-rbf-create-a-propaganda-video-and-cripple-the-btc and https://np.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/8dd5ij/why_bitcoin_cash_users_reject_the_name_bcash_so/

1c) threats and harassments - https://np.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/is1130/it_seems_tim_draper_is_being_misled_about_bch_and/g54x63q/

1d) DDOS attacks - http://qntra.net/2015/09/xt-node-blacklists-fail-to-prevent-ddos-attack/

1e) Plus a bunch of other unethical stuff if you care to read more at https://np.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/hgpjph/the_pitiful_state_of_bitcoin_cash_transactions/fw5qczk/

Anyone who dares to promote increasing the blocksize or favorably on Bitcoin Cash, they get banned and their voices silenced in certain subreddits (eg. rbitcoin, rcryptocurrency, etc). They also get harassed and attacked by online paid trolls. Mind you, all these started even before the creation of Bitcoin Cash. That’s why many of us ended up in this subreddit and are Bitcoin Cash supporters.

Bitcoin Cash is unstoppable peer to peer money for the world. Join us in making a positive impact to humanity together. Anything that is worth doing, should be done even if the odds seem to be against us.

BSV proponent "explains that the BCH roadmap tops out at just barely 30 times BTC’s roadmap"

We need to raise the max block size for BCH ASAP for marketing reasons too. We can still keep a lower soft cap if needed, but it will open many more doors for business developers if we can say that BCH currently has a max block size of 1GB, supporting around 5,000 tx per second. Money for the world doesn't top out at 32MB blocks and ~ 100 TX per second.

How Bitcoin saved my life.

I posted this on another subreddit, and its gotten a lot of response. Just thought I'd share it here so newcomers can see how I used DCA strategy to invest in Bitcoin monthly over the last 8 years.

I'm a taxi driver in a European city and in December 2012 I picked up an American customer who wanted to go to the airport. The traffic was chaotic and what would usually be a 30 min journey, took approx 90 min. He was cool with it though, as he had plenty of time for his flight.

We had a really good chat, he told me about BTC and how even if I didn't want to put money into it, it was important to know what it was. Needless to say, I was intrigued, and a bit confused. Over the next ten days or so, I read as much online as I could and decided there and then that I would quit my 15 cigarettes a day habit and put the money I would have spent otherwise into BTC. I made my first purchase of BTC on Jan 1st, 2013.

Every month for the last 8 years, I have bought €250 of BTC. I was DCAing without even realising it was an actual strategy. I am still buying at today's price, and have bought at every price range since 2013. I have never sold any of it.

Needless to say, my financial and physical health have drastically changed since then and I truly believe that BTC has saved my life. My initial plan was to DCA for 10 years, and if I have enough to retire, then I will, that's less than 2 years away now and will be 1 month before my 40th birthday.

I have well over 7 figures in BTC, yet still drive my taxi everyday. Life is good.

Edit: Just wanted to add in that Bitcoin gave me an incentive to quit smoking, and that's as valuable to me as the gains I've made. That's why I feel it saved my life.

The easiest way to convert naysayers is to give them Bitcoin.

My Mom and Dad (both over 70) do not understand crypto. I heard it all "It's not backed by gold." "How can 'nothing' be worth anything." "It's a Ponzi scheme." They are wonderful and intelligent people, and I certainly don't fault them for the skepticism. So 3 years ago I gave my Mom and Dad $20 each of bitcoin for Christmas and I taught them how to check the current price based on what they were holding. Then I did nothing, except the occasional mention "Have you checked YOUR bitcoin lately?"

My Dad was convinced in less than 6 months and put $2200 of his own money in. He still doesn't 'get it' but doesn't really care. He's happy. My Mom - and this is a holy miracle - said the next time I buy to let her know so she can 'try it out'. She's also getting positive reinforcement from legit news sources and financial thinkers. I'm super stoked for both of them.

My point is, money Bitcoin talks way better than I do.

EDIT: I don't care about naysayers either, I should have said 'people you love who are skeptical'

I sold 10,000 World Of Warcraft gold for 5 bitcoin in 2012

I logged into wow for the first time in years on Monday. The first message was from my old guild master. He welcomed me back, gave me some help getting up to speed, ect. Then he says man if you saved those bitcoins I traded you for gold the would be worth thousands. I had forgotten that I had done this deal. I immediately started looking for my wallet. And I found it. Along with a Google doc with the login info. And there they were! So, I call my tax guy he says he can help me with that end. I was able to sell them fast. And now i am looking for a house as soon as the funds are in my bank account. Also nothing is stored on any cloud anymore.

If USA bans bitcoin, heres the simple process wall street will use to buy bitcoin. (aka it can't be banned)

imagine Apple wants to buy bitcoin but the gov makes some new laws saying companies can't buy bitcoin.

  1. setup new company in another country
  2. use the new company to buy bitcoin
  3. buy private shares of that company.
  4. "we dont own any bitcoin, we just own shares of this company"

wall street trillion dollar companies don't even pay taxes cus they do shit like this. Bans only stop poor people from doing things. billionaires find a way. loophole

How do we spread the word about BCH?

Clearly the main reason BCH is significantly undervalued is because no one talks about BCH. We all know it is censored on other subreddits, so I wanted to know different ways we can get the word out about BCH. I’ve heard that it’s not worth it to try and post on r/Bitcoin and r/cryptocurrency because it’s a waste of time so I am open to other ideas. Bitcoin ETF will change everything

My boomer parents just bought close to a full bitcoin through the new canadian bitcoin etf that started trading today. They would never have bought any if it wasn't for the etf. What a great way for everyday investors to buy bitcoin and not have to worry about exchange fees, wallets, keys, custody, etc. Not only for retail investors but also companies, pension funds etc.

The fact that people can now hold it long term in tax saving accounts and retirement plans is amazing and will truly change everything. In fact, any new buys will probably be through the etf personally.

I know a lot of people here lean to the libertarian side (myself included) and will state, "not your keys, not your coins", but honestly, 99% of people are going to buy to hedge against inflation and invest in this new finance instrument and aren't trying to screw central banks.

Just my 2 sats, once a bitcoin etf opens in the US, you will want to make sure you bought some before that happens.

To those asking if you should buy now...

If you’re asking if you should buy now you’re not going to buy anyway.

When price goes up you’ll say you should have bought the last time you asked and will ask again if you should buy now. You won’t.

When it dips you’ll be too scared to buy because you’ll think it will dip more and you won’t buy.

When it comes raging back to all time highs you will repeat this cycle.

To the rest of you. Cheers!

Anyone know if BCH is big in the backpacker community? It seems like a perfect fit to me.

Back when I was younger and traveling the world on a shoestring budget, every penny lost was a big deal to me and the people around me. You did whatever you could to avoid high exchange fees/withdrawal fees and bad conversion rates. I would've LOVED to take just one single currency with me that could be used in every country I visited(plus some IRL cash/credit card as safety backup of course).

On the flip side, many of the countries backpackers visit are poor and have unstable or weak currencies, so local hostel owners, merchants and other that cater to this community are usually pretty innovative when it comes to stuff like this. If just a few backpackers passing by would ask to pay in Bitcoin cash, I'm sure many owners would look into it. Especially since the on-boarding process seem so simple these days.

I could see how this really could cause a ripple effect since the backpacker "scene" is pretty competitive. For example, if Hostel A gain a few more customers because of using BCH, Hostel B and C probably wouldn't be far after.

Does anyone know if crypto/BCH is popular in the backpacker community? If not, is anyone doing anything to tap this potentially huge market?

TLDR: The name "bcash" arose from an elaborate campaign to disinform and defraud unsuspecting users. Using this term marks you as a disinformation agent.

Note: new users may have heard that term and may repeat it innocently. Try to be patient with such people, who are victims of an elaborate disinformation campaign.

Others, who know better, should simply be called out when they use that term, and debate should stop there. Nobody should engage in otherwise reasonable discussion with anyone who knowingly persists in disinformation.

The Happy Accident of a Middle Aged Guy researching Cryptocurrency.

I think I just set a new high watermark for how much of a clueless middle aged white guy I truly am.

I've been researching the idea of putting some assets into Cryptocurrency as a hedge against what I think will be an upcoming market correction (my unverifyable "gut" is telling me a 40%-50% correction before the end of this year) and I have been seeing some very compelling discussions about crypto being a virtual version of other "hard assets". (i.e. it's the millennial version of "gold bugs")

So I look around and see articles saying that for the true completely inexperience novice (me in a nutshell) Coinbase is a good starting point, but with slightly higher fees. So I go to coinbase to take a look, figure I will create an account and look around. I click on log in and... wait... lastpass filled in an account name.

Turns out I have a coinbase account already...

Turns out I did experiment in the past (3/19)..

Turns out I bought $150 in BTC then... (thinking back I think it was the proceeds from a decent Poker night with some friends, which I had completely forgotten about)

Turns out I have around $2k in crypto already.

I'm an old.... who just found $2000 in the virtual couch cushions of the interwebs.

This aged well: Woman divorces husband for reading r/Bitcoin (aka cult of clueless idiots) and HODLing too much BTC... in 2014. Get ready to laugh.. extremely entertaining read.

I remember reading an old r/relationships post about a woman who was furious at her husband for his "cult like" belief in bitcoin and mocked him for thinking he was "in a the ground floor". She goes off on a diatribe and mocks him every chance he gets for his "foolish" beliefs and how he spends his money on buying and holding bitcoin... she consider any bitcoin that he holds to be "lost money".

I actually saved this when I read it back years ago to see one day how it would age... man talk about the worlds biggest I told you so. She had zero faith and respect in her husband. I hope he has a garage full of lambos in his giant mansion.

Here are some of the highlights snipped for your own entertainment:

-------

"My husband (I'll call him John for the sake of anonymity) and I have been married for a little over 5 years now and everything has been going well up until a year or so ago. We were planning on having children and everything. Now my life feels like it is at a complete stand still."

" We are both avid redditors so when we find a new subreddit that we love we get excited and start sending each other links to see if we can get the other one interested He finds out about bitcoin and is sending me links constantly about it. (r/bitcoin) It goes from "check out this cool technology" to absolute cultish behavior in a very brief period. I would say 0-100 in probably 2 months. He starts taking every dime we have and buying them as quickly as he can. He actually set up a feature that BUYS MORE ON A WEEKLY BASIS after our paychecks come through. The worst part is he didn't even TELL ME he did this. He gave me this arrogant response about doing what's best for us and our future kids.

Overall, and I'm not exaggerating, I would say we have lost over $22,000. I kept telling him to sell as the price was rising and he promised me a big year in 2014. The price kept falling and he CONTINUED TO BUY MORE. He makes more money than I do but we are building a future together and we have a shared bank account. He kept telling me this was for our kids college fund, to buy a house, etc. The money...I can get over as people spend money on other stupid crap like boats they will never use but this isn't even the beginning to the absolute craziness I will see out of him over the coming year.

My husband starts bringing up fucking bitcoin at these events. MY events for MY job. People here have a lot of money and he knows this. He saw this as some kind of opportunity. He goes on and on about how taxes are theft and bitcoin is a way out. The dollar is about to collapse, banks are destroying the world, etc. You are supposed to make light hearted jokes about how their football team is doing, not get into these political discussions. He knows this too since he's been coming to these events with me for years.

It starts off small where I laugh it off and say "ohhhh John, he's into technology and gets a little too excited". He saw this as condescension. The car rides home? Full on fights about how I don't get it and I'm going to be left behind. I felt like I was fighting with some type of evangelical Christian (I have been in plenty of these growing up). He ironically rips into religion any chance he gets but he is absolutely part of a cult full of insane people.

Keep in mind as this goes on he is still buying more as the price goes down telling me we have a great opportunity on our hands. He ignores long term trends and focuses on these specific time frames to show me how stupid I am. Yes, my husband called me STUPID over THINKING I do not understand it.

I feel like I have read more about bitcoin than he has because he won't discuss any downsides with me. He tells me all problems will be fixed and we are in on the ground floor. He seems to be in a constant good news bubble about this when no one actually cares. Most of the responses he gets from people in public are feigned interest until they can get away from him or they just tell him they don't care if the converstaion lasts more than 2 minutes. I am embarrassed to be around him.

After a recent price crash, he actually bought more using our vacation fund that I have been saving away for AND planning. All gone, in bitcoin never to be seen again.

I am sorry for the long rant but this is my life now. I have tried everything. I have tried reasoning with him. I have tried explaining to him that he should not have sole control over our money. He is so confident that he slyly brings up selling one of our cars to buy more. He didn't come right out and say what it was for but I can guarantee you it was to buy more. He is ruining my job and robbing me of happiness.

I used to consider him a smart guy and I never, ever thought he would succomb to basically being brainwashed by a bunch of clueless idiots on the internet who seem to know absolutely nothing about finance or the real world (r/bitcoin). I don't know how familiar people are here with bitcoin but if you go to their subreddit, you will see exactly what I'm talking about. I started crying once reading my husband's comments worded slightly differently, repeated 100 times over. It was like I married a parrot.

What do I DO? I am not religious in any way but my family most certainly is. I feel like I couldn't even bring up divorce and I want to save my husband. I want him back to the way he was. It seems like he is addicted to a drug but since he doesn't realize it, everyone else is wrong. I don't know if I should have an intervention or just walk away and hope he comes to his senses when I'm staying in a hotel for a few weeks.

Again, I apologize for the length but I want you to feel the way I feel so you can understand the advice you are giving. I really need help here. Thank you to anyone who even reads half of this!

Everyone told her to divorce him... here is the most downvoted comment with -66 downvotes:

Man I am so glad I'm not married. You're gonna want your husband when those bitcoins are worth fortunes.... hopefully HE's gonna divorce you before that because you don't deserve any of it.

To your husband I say... keep holding those coins brother.

Motley Fool is now formally recommending bitcoin and will be backing it with a 5 million dollar investment in the weeks to come.

They just released a video to members stating that they will be investing into Bitcoin as a hedge against long term inflation and that they see it hitting 150k per coin and beyond. This is the first time one of their paid services has recommended any kind of crypto currency.

You’re too late.

Im here to tell you something very important, Im talking to you Mr. New Investor who has a serious case of FOMO and a $100 bill burning a hole in his pocket...

YOU’RE TOO LATE

Yep you heard me right, you’re late to the party. The other 99% of companies in the S&P 500 with no Bitcoin on their balance sheet also agree with me, you’re too late to the party.

Those of us not too late are watching our holdings grow from $30k to $50k and we’re gonna watch it go from $50k to $100k and $100k to $1M... but YOU?? you’re way too late.

Go home nothing to see here, party’s over. You’re too late, maybe when its $1M you will arrive early next time.

Technically speaking - How would wrapped ETH or wrapped BTC work on BCH/

Does anyone have any documentation or ideas that can help with this?

I am struggling to find documentation or discussion on these topics. Does anyone know how this might work on-chain?

I suppose you can:

  1. Create an ETH smart contract which holds ETH
  2. Create a BCH smart contract using Spedn or Cashscript
  3. Send ETH to step 1
  4. Mint wETH in #2
  5. Do what you want with it
  6. Then reverse the process to go back to ETH?

Not quite sure, Would there need to be an oracle (I think - yes) from step #2 to step #1 to watch the amount of ETH and 'sender' of the ETH that is deposited?

Does anyone know where I can find technical resources on this? Ive been diving deep! BCH IS KING!

Looking for uses for a lot of old tech just collecting dust.

I have a lot of tech just laying around and I am aiming to put as much as I can to work. Currently I am running a few years old Dell with a smashed monitor and a 2008 iMac both as nodes.

Other items include- iPhone 6s,7,Xs and two iPhone X. Xbox one (OG) and Xbox One X, Xbox 360. MacBook Air 2014(Currently not turning on but may fix in the future)

I have spent hours looking for information on how to get started with the items above, either turn them into nodes or miners but always get nowhere.

If you have had success let me know, my other option for the Xbox’s is donating them to the local Children’s Hospital.

BCH point of sale payment services

So in 2016, I bought $20 of bitcoin

Spent $5 worth at the time on some e books from this cheap website for like $1 ea. Was actually upset, that I didn't have any other books to buy to use up the remaining balance, and totally forgot about all of this for the last 4 years.

Randomly stumbled on the coinbase site and decided to log in....

turns out I have 0.01854846 BTC, worth $902 in my account!!

Some questions about BCH smart contract capabilities

Hi , I posted a few times as CEO of a blockchain dedicated Company (Startup).

I should say at the beginning that I'm not a native English speaker , so I apologize for incoming grammar mistakes :D
I made a SLP token to represent the share value of the company to raise funds , and distribute dividends and free airdrops in return to the public and investors in the long run.

one of the main concerns of me is to provide De-Fi sort of services to the public investors.
like automating token airdrops for like each block ,X amount token to be distributed to all of the stake hodlers.

or automating a contract in which a fair dividend will distribute each month based on some sort of calculation which I as the founder can implement on the platform.

these things are those problems which can hold BCH developers back ,in compare to ETH , TRX or other smart contract based blockchains in the whole DeFi projects.Because of that, there's the need for trust in projects like mine, which we promise the community Airdrops and dividend payments.token distribution fairness need to be based on overall trust on the company and individuals and this could be red flag for some investors and other blockchain developers to not involve in the field.

I'm just here to ask if there's planning to improve and provide these kinds of contracts for SLP based tokens and BCH in whole ?

Grayscale owns 1.5 % of BCH

Hello!

I just updated the most recent numbers of Grayscale BCH trust.

It has been growing very nice.

It owns already 1.5 % of all the bch that has been mined since 2009 even though it has been around since August 2020. It is approximately 2 X the inflation. Meaning, the monster is eating BCH literally from our plates. Therefore, my advice is to think carefully what to do with bch.

BCH is probably the best thing that has happened for BCH. Especially if it can manage the growth and heck even grow faster.

For 401k savers, you might consider also BCH trust as a good option to diversify your stock portfolio. Despite the premium, in 20-30 years it will be most likely your best performing asset.

It's seriously amazing how far technology has come since the scaling debate back in 2015-2016!

I remember first getting into Bitcoin back in 2015-2016 (somewhere around that time). I wasn't even in HS. I heard about Bitcoin through an app called slidejoy, which allowed you to get free money every time you unlocked your phone. At the time, I wanted to redeem my money for PayPal cards, but I couldn't get my PayPal account up and running. I had looked at the other options for redeeming money, and there was this option to redeem money in "Bitcoins". I redeemed a small amount, but never understood the actual concept of cryptocurrency. At the time I got my first few satoshis, I wasn't paying any attention to the "great scaling debate". I lost my Bitcoins, and didn't really think about them for a few years (until I got them back and spent them).

I remember being interested in tech over all, and hearing about SSDs and how they are a new form of digital storage that are going to replace normal HDDs. I was thinking about shopping for them, but at the time, they were ridiculously expensive, and I didn't have that money. I wasn't really old enough to work, and it seemed like a waste. Back then, even a SSD that had a capacity of 1 TB was almost a thousand bucks. I remember thinking "who in their right mind would pay 8x the cost for digital storage just to get it a little faster". Keep in mind that there were only SATA SSDs that were widely available at the time. Back then, my family's internet connection speed was only about 25 mbps.

Fast forward 5 years, and here we are today. I thought SATA SSDs were fast and impressive. Little did I know that we already have a "new" type of SSD that uses PCIe technology. Not only are they faster, but they make SATA SSDs look painfully slow. Today, I can get the same SSD I had back in 2016 for only about $150, (which has the same max speed of the SATA cap at 750 MB/s or 6 Gbps), and if I just want to pay a little bit more, I can get a PCIe/NVMe SSD, which is roughly 5x faster than a standard SATA drive, clocking in at roughly 32 Gbps or 4 GB/s. My internet home connection has also gone from 25 mbps to 300 mbps (and that is the slow option), an improvement of 12x. It really surprises me how far tech has come even in the last 5 years when I start looking back.

Passing $20,000 was more exciting than $50,000

Passing both of these ATH, were very different feelings. Hitting 20k felt great because it was a true struggle. It took about 3 years of a roller coaster ride to get there from the last ATH in 2017.

$50k on the other hand, came very fast and was not as exciting. We passed it and I was like, "Saw that coming".

Anyone else feel the same?

Recently quit my job due in part to BTC

Just gave in my two week notice. Not going to say the amount, but my btc holdings have grown substantially this past year, enough for me to have the courage to leave a job that made me very unhappy.

I was wondering if others here have done the same. What have you all done since then?

I’ve told myself I will not work directly for someone else again. Only entrepreneurial work from here on out! 😁

BTC propaganda: we only get one shot to replace fiat so it's BTC or nothing

I've only noticed this one semi-recently. Apparently the idea is out there that if BTC doesn't get the job done of replacing fiat or becoming a reserve currency, then no other crypto even has a chance. Therefore, even if another crypto is superior in all aspects to BTC, it can't be allowed to supplant BTC, because that would mean ultimate crypto failure and the big banks would reign forever.

Of course that's bullshit. There is no evidence that that is the case. We don't want the central banks to establish their own digital currency and have it seen as legitimate by the world. But that doesn't mean that it's BTC or nothing.

Has anyone else noticed this? Am I understanding this propaganda correctly? What other fictional narratives are being spun out there?
