In the past few months, cryptoasset market is recovering. Some of my friends are interested in buying BTC and asking advice from me. They don't have lots of knowledge about Bitcoin and blockchain, but they just want to buy Bitcoin. Their purpose is investment, which means they want to buy low and sell high then make profit. I tried to persuade my friends to buy BCH. Some of them use a some portion of their money to buy BCH but some of them still don't trust BCH. I guess many of us in BCH community have the same experience with me. What should we talke about, to deliver the investment potential of BCH to a crypto newbie? I think BCH has much better investment return potential then BTC, but the problem is how to deliver this knowledge to a friend without knowing about the long dramatic story of scaling.
Abstract.
A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution. Digital signatures provide part of the solution, but the main benefits are lost if a trusted third party is still required to prevent double-spending. We propose a solution to the double-spending problem using a peer-to-peer network. The network timestamps transactions by hashing them into an ongoing chain of hash-based proof-of-work, forming a record that cannot be changed without redoing the proof-of-work. The longest chain not only serves as proof of the sequence of events witnessed, but proof that it came from the largest pool of CPU power. As long as a majority of CPU power is controlled by nodes that are not cooperating to attack the network, they'll generate the longest chain and outpace attackers. The network itself requires minimal structure. Messages are broadcast on a best effort basis, and nodes can leave and rejoin the network at will, accepting the longest proof-of-work chain as proof of what happened while they were gone.
Commerce on the Internet has come to rely almost exclusively on financial institutions serving as trusted third parties to process electronic payments. While the system works well enough for most transactions, it still suffers from the inherent weaknesses of the trust based model. Completely non-reversible transactions are not really possible, since financial institutions cannot avoid mediating disputes. The cost of mediation increases transaction costs, limiting the minimum practical transaction size and cutting off the possibility for small casual transactions, and there is a broader cost in the loss of ability to make non-reversible payments for non- reversible services. With the possibility of reversal, the need for trust spreads. Merchants must be wary of their customers, hassling them for more information than they would otherwise need. A certain percentage of fraud is accepted as unavoidable. These costs and payment uncertainties can be avoided in person by using physical currency, but no mechanism exists to make payments over a communications channel without a trusted party.
What is needed is an electronic payment system based on cryptographic proof instead of trust, allowing any two willing parties to transact directly with each other without the need for a trusted third party. Transactions that are computationally impractical to reverse would protect sellers from fraud, and routine escrow mechanisms could easily be implemented to protect buyers. In this paper, we propose a solution to the double-spending problem using a peer-to-peer distributed timestamp server to generate computational proof of the chronological order of transactions. The system is secure as long as honest nodes collectively control more CPU power than any cooperating group of attacker nodes.

On the https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/cnfyx3/coinbase_has_to_litigate_suit_over_bch_listing_in/ post I commented pointing out the article neglects to talk about the fraud aspect of the lawsuit being dropped. So there is only the negligence aspect moving forward. Yet it was removed without a warning or providing a reason.
I thought this was supposed to be the uncensored sub? Is this turning into the next r Bitcoin sub?
Or does anyone want to explain what I did wrong for calling out journalism that ignores facts to push their narrative?
The motion to dismiss the fraud claims is granted. The plaintiffs have not particularly pleaded their reliance on Coinbase’s allegedly fraudulent statements. See Fed. R. Civ. P. 9(b). Moreover, while the factual allegations paint a compelling picture of an incompetent launch by Coinbase, the complaint does not outline a coherent account of fraud by Coinbase, Armstrong, and Farmer. For instance, the plaintiffs tell us that Armstrong (the founder of Coinbase) trumpeted the virtues of Bitcoin Cash and sought to increase its popularity, all the while harboring a nefarious plan to let insiders sabotage his exchange’s launch of trading in Bitcoin Cash.

Perhaps I misinterpreted the original article since I thought it was two different lawsuits not the same one at first. Last I checked though the purpose of an uncensored sub was to inform people of their mistakes and lack of knowledge not to shadow ban their comments leaving them in the dark like the rest of the r Bitcoin visitors trying to actually inform themselves instead of being a paid shill.

I'm starting to really understand the power of private keys... are you telling me that if I was able to commit 12-24 words in order to memory... then essentially my mind becomes my bank? So I could walk across any border on the planet regardless of security and metal detectors and anal probing... and transport billions of fiat currencies completely undetectable?

I'm traveling to China a couple of times next month. Ideally, I'd like to be able to spend BCH whenever possible. I understand I can no longer do that through WeChat, but are there other straightforward ways to do so? If not spending directly, is there a relatively safe/cheap way to exchange BCH for CNY? I would prefer to not create an account anywhere if I can avoid it.
I'll be traveling with some Americans and some Chinese, so it would be great if I could demo ease of use, especially with my American counterparts spending time and fees to exchange USD/CNY. Any tips are appreciated, trying to help spread usage!

I had 1.2 BTC stolen. I was making a transaction and properly copied/pasted the beneficiary address. Apparently, someone put malware on my computer which changed the receiving side address automatically. Going out of my mind. At first I thought my wallet was stolen, but realized whenever I copy/paste a BTC address, it just changes it to some other address belonging to the hacker.
There are so many malware software programs to choose from (Bit Defender, AiroAV, Avast, Sophos, Mcafee, etc). Can you please tell me which is the best antivirus software?
