gcloud command for free port forwarding from Google Cloud account, using reverse SSH, along with Windows batch scripts to automatically restart the SSH tunnel
gcloud compute ssh tunnel --ssh-flag "-R 43022:localhost:22" --command "sudo sshpass -p WindowsPassword ssh localhost -N -p43022 -l WindowsUsername -L:80:localhost:80 -L:443:localhost:443 -L:8333:localhost:8333 -L:8334:localhost:8334 -L:8335:localhost:8335 -L:50001:localhost:50001 -L:50002:localhost:50002 -L:50003:localhost:50003 -L:50004:localhost:50004"
Port forwarding is necessary for Bitcoin nodes to accept inbound connections, Fulcrum (Electron-Cash) servers, serving web-sites from PC & setting up a Tor relay. Unfortunately many of us like myself can't forward ports properly from fiber modem. Unlike VPN port forwarding, Google Cloud is free to try! PureVPN otoh may involve a 24 month contract. Every Google account with a proper debit card # gets 3 months free with $300 credit. I've only used $22 in 9 days, including VM setup.
Ports 80 & 443 are for HTTP & HTTPS. Ports 8333→8335 are for BCHD (full node). Ports 50001→50004 are for Fulcrum, an EC server. Port 22 is for Windows OpenSSH Server. Seeding torrents may require yet another port.
The problem is that it's quite difficult for ppl to figure out how to forward ports reliably using ssh, even if it is free. The above command requires a few things:
- "tunnel" refers to a working VM inside the cloud.
gcloud compute instances create
can be used from PowerShell, since the gcloud website is too confusing imo. There might be a firewall rule needed at gcloud's website, though. sudo apt-get install sshpass
is necessary, aftergcloud compute ssh tunnel
from PowerShell. sshpass allows combining everything into a single cmd command.- In Win10 go to Manage Optional Features & install OpenSSH Server. Optionally if you go to the Windows Services app you can check that OpenSSH Server is running properly.
- Replace WindowsPassword & WindowsUsername with your Win10 login credentials. A more secure, more complicated, option is to create a secondary non-admin account for port forwarding (always logged in). Same sort of thing should also work for local Linux or macOS.
I recently posted a batch script to auto reset failing Wi-Fi adapters. This can be combined a new batch script which reboots the gcloud tunnel & then resets the ssh port forwarding. Copy the following into notepad & save as MaintainSSHConnection.bat
call gcloud compute ssh tunnel --command "sudo reboot" TimeOut 15 call gcloud compute ssh tunnel --ssh-flag "-R 43022:localhost:22" --command "sudo sshpass -p WindowsPassword ssh localhost -N -p43022 -l WindowsUsername -L:80:localhost:80 -L:443:localhost:443 -L:8333:localhost:8333 -L:8334:localhost:8334 -L:8335:localhost:8335 -L:50001:localhost:50001 -L:50002:localhost:50002 -L:50003:localhost:50003 -L:50004:localhost:50004"
replacing the password & username with your own. It takes btwn 10 & 15 secs to reboot the Linux VM (maybe 20 is safer). I'm not sure why call
is necessary. Then create MaintainInternetConnection.bat:
cd C:\ :GoTo TimeOut 1 Ping -n 1 www.msftconnecttest.com | FindStr /n ^^ | FindStr "^[2-3]" If %ErrorLevel%==0 GoTo GoTo netsh interface set interface Wi-Fi disabled netsh interface set interface Wi-Fi enabled TimeOut 5 start cmd /k "%~dp0MaintainSSHConnection" GoTo GoTo
Right-click this one & Run as Administrator (to turn Wi-Fi off & on if it fails). %~dp0
properly addresses the other .bat, for example. It's quite tricky to get all this perfect, so maybe PureVPN port forwarding + better wi-fi adapter is the simpler more secure option!
I'm running a Fulcrum server at bchd.tk, as well as a BCHD SLP-GraphSearch server. There's a timeout problem with the bchd-mainnet.electroncash.de server, so EC-SLP users might need an alternative! Using free gcloud port forwarding anyone can run their own graphsearch server, etc. gcloud could be like gmail for VPN! A Tor relay could also be run on the VM, possibly helping to improve the Tor network.
Edit: It just occurred to me that MaintainSSHConnection.bat should be a completely separate script with its own GoTo loop. If the SSH connection breaks for any reason, it just restarts with sudo reboot
, etc. Maintaining SSH could be its own problem if the tunnel gets attacked somehow, e.g. DDoS.

Crypto.com quietly steals your money
I've been a crypto.com customer for two years now and used their ruby red card as my primary CC. (For cashback)
I do this by sending recurring top ups to my account and then using the card in my day-to-day purchases. About three months ago, I noticed that my balance was basically empty, even though the top up had occurred recently and showed up in the transaction history. At that point I shrugged it off, thinking it was probably a stuck transaction or something like that, hoping it would fix itself. I would've contacted the support then and there but the support feature within the app was broken at that time. Fast forward to a month later and even more money is missing. The support chat within the app still loads infinitely, so I contact them through other means. The first agent told me to export my transaction history manually and just straight up closed the ticket.
I've tried three more times since then, even calculating that my account balance is wrong for them, but they always tell me they will escalate it, then I wait for a day or two usually after which I get connected with a new person that just does the exact same thing again or just straight up closes the ticket.
At this point I've exported my entire account history, calculated my balance (!from their own data!) and the result is I'm basically missing an entire months salary. I'm not sure if this is just pure and utter incompetence on their side or just their business strategy but all I'm left with is reporting them to the financial authorities and warning others about their practices.

help me with long term storage
If I get wallet from ABC and have the 12 wordseed phrase, can I download XYZ wallet years later and enter 12 words and access my btc?
If so, what advantages do hardware wallets provide over storing seed phrase?
Please be gentle, I searched in this sub but was unable to find this answer. Full disclosure I am an ape so brain small. "Why don’t you explain this to me like I am an eight year old."

TODAY we held a meetup in Maracaibo with successful results from new users
Bitcoin Agents Darwin and Miguel held an excellent meetup for the workers of "Vilgo Viajes" travel agency in Maracaibo, obtaining a wonderful approach of 10 new users for Bitcoin Cash. We continue to build prosperity despite the adversities of the market, this makes us stronger and motivates us to show that Bitcoin Cash crosses borders as if they did not exist. [link] [comments] |

Lightning Network fact or myth ?
Been researching this and many of the claims made here about the LN always are denied by core supporters. Let’s keep it objective.
Can the large centralized liquidity hubs such as strike, chivo etc actually “print more IOUs for bitcoin” ? How exactly would that be done ?
Their answer: For any btc to be on the LN, the same amount must be locked up on the base layer so this is a lie.
AFAIK strike is merely a fiat ramp where you pay using their bitcoin, so after you deposit USD they pay via their own bitcoin via lightning. I don’t see how strike can pay with fake IOUs through the LN. Chivo I’ve heard has more L-btc than actual btc only because they may not even be using the LN in the first place. So it seems the only way they can do this is on their own bankend not actually part of the LN.
Many even say hubs have no ability to refuse transactions or even see what their destination is.
In the end due to the fees for opening a channel, the majority will go the custodial route without paying fees. But what are the actual implications of that. The more I read the more it seems hubs can’t do that much (can’t make fake “l-btc”, or seek out to censor specific transactions, but can steal funds hence the need for watchtowers)

Founder of Three Arrows Capital Nowhere To Be Found According To Liquidators
According to a filing by consulting firm Teneo, which is anticipated to sell the remaining assets of the struggling cryptocurrency hedge fund, the founders of Three Arrows Capital are nowhere to be found. As a result of the dramatic selloff in digital currencies, Three Arrows filed for Chapter 15 bankruptcy in the British Virgin Islands late in June.
The move was meant to protect the assets of foreign corporations from US creditors. Three Arrows, co-founded by Kyle Davies and Zhu Su, declared bankruptcy after failing to repay a $670 million debt from cryptocurrency broker Voyager Digital, ...

Bitcoin is NOT an Inflation Hedge
Bitcoin is a hedge against monetary debasement (money printing). Bitcoin is unaffected by and cannot hedge against supply/demand shocks in market goods or other commodities.
Price volatility is heavily driven by Wall Street and retail speculators.
Bitcoin was about $10k when the money printer was turned on for COVID in March 2020. Bitcoin is still up 90% since then. Working exactly as expected.
In order to hedge against monetary debasement, you must acquire the hedge (buy Bitcoin) BEFORE debasement occurs.
It was driven up far higher by speculative FOMO. A lot of BTC newbs got in during that FOMO.
Bitcoin price is declining now that the Wall Street speculation has dried up. And can go lower as the money printer goes in reverse… exactly the way bitcoin is expected to work.
Bitcoin adoption is a separate driver of price/demand growth and Bitcoin will continue to trend higher in the long run (years & decades) as adoption grows.

Bitcoin enters the debate as bankruptcy declared in Sri Lanka
The presidential residence of the Asian country Sri Lanka was taken over this July 9 by a massive number of inhabitants protesting the national bankruptcy announced this week. The situation has spread a wave of comments on social networks about whether such a scenario would happen in other countries and what would be the role of Bitcoin (BTC).
However, it is evident that several locals have been receiving items from the online ecommerce Exeno. "Most people think bankruptcy is something that could never happen to them. Yet 1.5 million Americans a year file for bankruptcy. Now imagine your country does that and you have no control over the events and monetary policy leading up to it. Bitcoin is insurance against that."
The leading cryptocurrency allows you to keep your money under self-custody, so you could safeguard the value in the face of an economic crisis. Or even in case of a possible "corralito" of banks, as happened a few decades ago in Argentina.

Is it possible To have an mp4 file format minted into an NFT?
The growth of the NFT sector has been pretty much unimaginable, starting from zero to become a multi-billion dollar industry in such a short time. I'm however interested in knowing, besides Solis NFT marketplace, if there are other marketplaces where NFTs in .mp4 format can be traded?
This is pretty much a straightforward enquiry about NFTs and the most popular file formats that can be minted into NFTs.
My findings however show that most marketplaces accept just files in either jpeg or png formats. If this is correct, then it seems that puts a limit on creators who produce audio content such as poetry, movies, music etc.

What kind of regulations do you expect from the Financial Stability Board?
While government regulation may end up not being the best for the crypto industry, I guess it would finally have to happen sometime not too far from now. In my opinion, there would be an implosion or self-destruct in the industry if some form of barricade in terms of regulations isn't introduced in a short while. You may ask why? First is the volume of 'unchecked' projects that make their way into the industry everyday. Besides the catastrophic Terra, there are tons of projects such as Chronoly which is involved in NFT watches; Toklok which is a blockchain based social media platform; and several others in move-to-earn and play-to-earn categories.
The incessant hacks, liquidations and the resultant loss of investor funds are issues that also calls for some supervisory oversight of the market. According to the FSB: "The FSB is working to ensure that crypto-assets are subject to robust regulation and supervision. The recent "turmoil" in crypto markets highlights the intrinsic volatility and structural vulnerabilities as well as the increasing interconnectedness between crypto markets and the traditional financial system."
But guess we'd have to await the recommendations of the Financial Stability Board come October to know what regulations would be put in place which would cover stablecoins and other digital assets.

Flippening: Lightning Network is processing more payments than BCH.
- LN: 28.068 payments per day Source
- BCH: 27.609 tx per day Source (10th of July)
The usual disclaimer applies. Payments on the Lightning Network are private and encrypted. The estimates are based on statistics collected over several nodes in January and February 2022. The number of payments have roughly doubled between 2021 and 2022 (+100%), while the transacted USD value has increased by ~+400%.
In addition, Kraken has enabled Lightning Network for its customers in April 2022 which will likely have increased payment count beyond the previous trend to around ~40K to ~50K per day in July 2022.

Dollars as a digital currency.
I’ve heard arguments for Bitcoin saying it’s a digital asset that you can send anywhere at the speed of light. However, I have an online bank account where I can do the exact same thing either through a direct transfer, wire, or through an app like Venmo. So how exactly does Bitcoin have an advantage over the dollar as far as a digital currency is concerned?

So, ~3968 blocks ago, ~0.3 BCH were sent to a faucet that pays 0.1 BCH every 4000 blocks..
For the cavalier:
npm i bitcoin-cash-faucet -g npx bitcoin-cash-faucet --period 4000 --payout 10000000 --address <YOUR_BCH_ADDRESS> --fee 154
