Tipping on Reddit (or anywhere else) without a tip bot? Yes, it is possible! [practise thread]
Since the chaintip bot is currently down (apparently suspended by Reddit with an appeal to resume service in progress), I thought I'd open a discussion post on alternatives that people can use to tip BCH for good content on Reddit and other sites.
This sub, and others, have a 'no begging' rule, so I'm not going to suggest anybody post comments in subreddits soliciting tips for anything (at least not without discussing with the mods of such subs to make sure it's not against sub policy).
This post is about what we can do to
-
receive BCH tips if someone else wants to tip you
-
how we can tip others for content which we like
All of the ways I'm going to talk about here, require that you have a Bitcoin Cash address on which you can receive tips.
This Bitcoin Cash address should be in a wallet that you control directly.
Not an exchange wallet or custodial web wallet, meaning someone else controls they keys (and your coins). That would be bad.
So, if you do not have a Bitcoin Cash wallet yet, that is your First Step.
I recommend https://electroncash.org as a wallet, but you can browse around to find something that suits you best.
https://www.bestbchwallets.com
So you've created a receiving BCH address (bitcoincash:....) in your wallet and made sure you have your wallet seed backed up securely. Good!
Making sure people can find your address for decentralized tipping
Naturally, if someone wants to tip you on Reddit or elsewhere, they can just ask you for your tipping details. You could give them a bitcoincash: address, but that's a very long string of letters and numbers.
How to make it easier for them?
Get an easy to remember tipping name or URL. One that is easily identifiable and memorable as belonging to you, so next time they will remember to find the info easier.
There are two ways I know (but if someone knows more, please leave a comment!)
-
Register a CashAccount. You can do this via Electron Cash (Tools -> Register Cash Account) or via https://cashaccount.info (Registration) . I recommend the Electron Cash route, since it's so easy. Either way, you will need a tiny amount of Bitcoin Cash in your wallet to register a CashAccount. Once you're done, you will have a simple CashAccount name you can share with others. It will look something like
LovelyDayHere#215700
. They can look up 'LovelyDayHere' on https://www.cashaccount.info as well, to confirm. You can stick your CashAccount in your social media profile and people can quickly find it, then they can get the associated BCH address with an easy lookup (e.g. from inside Electron Cash or other good BCH wallets). -
You can get a https://tipb.ch tipping URL like https://tipb.ch/LovelyDayHere . If someone visits that URL they'll see the address and QR to send tips to you. Registration is extremely easy (you only need a name, a BCH address and an email address for managing your account, but this account doesn't keep your coins. It is only for managing linked tipping URL pages, of which you can register multiple. Optionally, you can also associate a SmartBCH address with a page, but I'm not going to get into that now (or until SmartBCH has a decentralized and working bridge, really).
Once you've set up one or both of the above ways for people to tip you, they can quite easily do it.
If you want to tip someone on social media
-
Tell them you appreciate their post/comment, and that you'd like to send them a Bitcoin Cash tip. If they don't want it, respect their wish, thank them and leave it be.
-
If they are receptive, and you know they have used BCH before, you can ask them whether they have a CashAccount or tipb.ch page that you can use to tip them. If they don't know what these are, then you have a great chance to familiarize them with these helpful tools. Show them the websites, and show them your own CashAccount and tipb.ch page so they see what it looks like in real life.
-
If they've never used BCH before, then you have a chance to introduce them to it. Beware that in some subreddits or other platforms, this may not be welcome in all conversations. So be mindful of the environment and possible preference of the counterparty for a private context (or public links) to learn more information about BCH first before accepting they decide if they want to accept a tip.
-
Encourage them to use their own non-custodial wallets. This is important, because otherwise tips may 'never show up' if an exchange refuses to credit it to a custodial account, and the chances that they'll be able to get an exchange support to fix that is small. Besides, tips sent to an exchange account are already not really their coins, they belong to the exchange and lots of bad things could happen with those coins. It's a good opportunity to teach people the value of holding your own coins. It's also important that they do not need to collect their tips in a hot wallet. They can generate a tipping address once, back up their wallet seed securely, and as long as they don't need to spend those tips, the wallet can be completely offline.
Alright folks.
Let's practice!

What Will CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) Hell Look Like?
By now many in the crypto scene have heard that the world's governments are on the verge of launching Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), which are electronic fiat currencies issued directly by Central Banks. Let's examine how the world will change when CBDCs become prevalent.
Not everybody has realized that effectively money has been electronic for 10+ years in industrialized countries. Cash is used in less and less daily commerce, and large financial transactions are almost always electronic in this day and age. Buying a new car or house with cash immediately arouses suspicion with the IRS or other legal entities. It's illegal to travel internationally with more than $10k. One of the main reasons to implement CBDCs is to ban cash. Countries like Sweden have mostly eliminated cash, except in rural areas. No cash means that people must be on the CBDC system to have any money at all. Given the recent moves by government to coerce people with lockdowns, vaccine mandates, and digital ID, making the entire money supply centrally controlled by government is truly terrifying. However, CBDC is only a continuation of a 20+ year trend of increasing government and banker control of the world's wealth. Consumers in most industrialized countries have tacitly accepted that they don't own their money under the guises of convenience and safety.
China's digital Yuan CBDC has already been launched. This enables the Chinese government to bypass US government sanctions on SWIFT, formerly the only system which could transfer large amounts of money internationally. Basically the digital Yuan breaks the USA's monopoly on international banking. For Chinese consumers, the CBDC is total hell, all transactions are permissioned and tracked. The digital Yuan even has an expiration date (as will the British CBDC) - if you don't spend your money before that date, it goes away! This would effectively mean the end of saving, nobody could get ahead. Your rights to spend CBDCs as a consumer could likely be regulated by AI, for example you can't buy anymore alcohol after you've reached your monthly purchase quota. The possibilities are endless for government to control and mold the behavior of its citizens.
Cryptocurrency is uniquely positioned to prevent the worst outcomes of CBDCs. When cash is banned, many people will move to crypto to exercise their financial autonomy. Many are already buying crypto, gold, and silver to preserve their wealth and avoid electronic fiat. Also, crypto will likely serve as an intermediary between CBDCs, as the USA is unlikely to allow free exchange of the Chinese CBDC for the US version. Finally, censoring crypto transactions (other than ETH) will be difficult or impossible for governments.

Bitcoin Unlimited are a bunch of dinosaurs stuck in 2016. Maybe they are broke too.
Remember when the BU bros tried to shill the Exbitron NEXA/BCH pair? Well luckily we warned against that because they got all of their users rugged.
They tout no pre-mine and no funding mechanisms as a good thing. However, they made the decision to remove all network effect by starting yet another blockchain. So, now they are trying to crowdfund $100,000 in ERC 20s and USDT for an exchange listings from their fledgling community.
I don't think that even ChatGPT could write a more ironic downfall for BU.
I also wonder if they see the irony of a central development team trying to source resources for the betterment of a community, while also using red and white "community is strong" imagery. Then saying they are only doing it because "the community wants it." Just wait until they stop asking and start demanding payment (lol)
I don't think these guys thought this through. I hope they come back to reality one day.

Understanding block explorers
Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could help me understand a few basic things about block explorers. In this case the transaction was made from 1 address to another, but as you can see, there are 60 senders in the list. If you click on the TX hash you can see all the 60 senders and the amounts I transferred are separated into 3 or 4 different transactions with different amounts (but the sum is equal to what I've sent). I wanted to know why do these 60 senders appear here (and not only my transaction); why are the amounts split; and if you have any good reads about this topic. Thank you. [link] [comments] |

Bitcoin Payment Processor
Hello,
I am very curious how to accept payments on my website (Wordpress) using bitcoin without using a 3rd party app that charges a fee to use. I want to make one from scratch so that it works with the same ease as using a card, so that when a customer makes a purchase using bitcoin I would be notified of an order. Has anyone been able to find a resource for how to build this? Any guidance appreciated.

Faketoshi being allowed to prosecute Bitcoin developers in the UK
What an incredible fail of the judges in this matter. When is this man, this scammer and pathological liar going to be stopped already. Why is he even allowed to keep harassing other people like this. It feels like he is being sponsored to harras proponents of Bitcoin and slow its inevitable progress.
Even if the outcome of the lawsuit will be that the developers should help faketoshi get 'his Bitcoin' back, they can't and they won't. Nobody has that power, not even the real Satoshi.

Prediction before the Halving
- Bitcoin correct down to 19.8K to fill in the CME Gap
- Then we run up to 30k-32k
- Correct back down 30-45 Percent
- Halving
- Lift Off
A correction is need before we hit thirty thousand which is what I think the high will be before the halving, because bitcoin has a history of running up to the wick down after the blow off top on that dead cat bounce during the accumulation area. The it typically bleeds out until 2 months before the halving. Last cycle I think we went further down than usual right before the halving because of covid. Let me know what you think of my thought process to get here. We also have some CME gaps above us at 35k and 28k so I could see a wick up there as well but that is pushing it. Would love to hear yalls thoughts!

Bitcoin miners no longer hoarding Bitcoin to inflate the price, instead they are choosing to dump it on retail investors for FIAT. Bitcoin is subsidizing millions in mining rewards to pay for expensive transactions in tiny blocks. It doesnt scale.
Abra doesn't let me protect my privacy
They gave me some cprx which equals to 4 cents. When I try to delete my acc, app says I need to get rid of funds.
I tried contacting support but they said I need to withdraw my funds. But I can't withdraw 4 cents. They are clearly blocking my right to protect my privacy.
I just want to relinquish of my funds and delete the account. I just want to protect my data from any possible data breach in future. Abra isn't cooperative with my situation. I need help from this subreddit's users.
What should I do?

Is it ok for bitcoin nodes to be late a few blocks?
I noticed while opening channels in lnd that it sometimes will wait more time after 3 confirmations are shown on mempool.space. Indeed, my bitcoin node seems slow to reach the same block height, increasing the 'umber of transactions regularly, apparently doing nothing intensive, but not increasing block height as fast, the sometimes growing block height of 3 blocks at once. Can it cause some issues for my lightning node, except for the slower reaction time? And what could I do to improve that reaction time?
