How safe are SPV wallets?

So, as you may know Electrum had an attack back in the day. I'm just curious as to how safe SPV wallets are. It's important because with bigger blocks SPV wallets are more useful. Are there any upcoming innovations with SPV wallets?

How exactly would Ethereum scale on top of Bitcoin Cash if they're separate coins with different hashing algorithms, and completely different confirmations times and chains?

Also is scaling ethereum on top of Bitcoin Cash still in the realm of possibility? I don't know if Vitalik is still considering it...

BTC stopped innovating after Bitcoin Cash forked and BCH has been a continuance of evolution whereas BTC has stagnated developmentally. The ignorant (and trolls) would call this “protocol ossification” when it’s clear that BTC is a failure at scaling even to modest levels.
