Something that occurred to me recently...

Buying Bitcoin (BTC) is essentially making a bet that you think that the majority of current and future users will be willing to endure a less user friendly experience, just so that a number of early adopters and tech geeks can fully monitor the system from their living rooms.

After looking at lightning network, how to set it up, how to use it, the code itself, the user experience, the extreme levels of complication, just to send and receive payments, and seeing that these payments are not only slower than on-chain payments, they are less reliable (you mean a payment can fail?), this is the only conclusion a thinking person, a person who is not invested in the system (and therefore incentivized to defend it) can reach.

I've heard all the arguments before, and none of them trump user experience. If you don't have user experience, you don't have anything.
