The Pi Network is slowly gaining traction. It has crossed over a million downloads already and has over 100,000 applications to run node. The project was introduced by 3 Stanford graduates to make crypto accessible by everyone without having to put money to enter into the space...this quote from the whitepaper specifically talks about how bitcoin has now become too hard for common folks to get hands on (without spending money)...
"Bitcoin’s inverted distribution model (less people earning more in the beginning, and more people earn less today) is one of the primary contributors to its uneven distribution. With so much Bitcoin in the hands of a few early adopters, new miners are “burning” more energy for less bitcoin."
The head of this project is Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis and he is a Stanford PhD and instructor of Stanford’s first decentralized applications class; combining distributed systems and human computer interaction to bring cryptocurrency to everyday people.
