West Virginia is rolling out a blockchain-based mobile voting app in state’s 55 counties so that military workers who stay in abroad can easily cast their votes in the midterm elections.
The state had earlier used the mobile voting platform, called Voatz app, in a trial for organized groups. Secretary of State Mac Warner stated that the plan was to extend the pilot to more than 50 counties for the workers in November only if the pilot proved to be successful.
The app was designed and positioned by voting technology startup, called Voatz, which had some excellent features that would convert and store all the voting data on a regionalized network, protecting voting information that is strongly encrypted and quickly managed.
According to Warner’s deputy chief of staff, Michael Queen, the state will leave the end decision to individual regions whether they will use the app or not at the time of the election.
He added that it remains to be seen how the overall acceptance will work out in the state. Also, many people thinking of this idea of mobile voting to be terrible.
Is Voatz APP Useful?
Voatz co-founder and CEO Nimit S. Sawhney sees the state as a springboard to broaden the use of the technology.
Even if the Voatz app is secure, but it cannot be confirmed because the organization has not vetted it. However, supporters and doubters of mobile voting will be inspected closely.
As per the news published in Coindesk, elections are anonymized as they are recorded on a public digital ledger called blockchain. Although that blockchain technology is most often connected with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and it can be used to record all method of data.
