University of Malta Unites With MITA To Establish Blockchain And DLT Scholarship Funds

The University of Malta has banded together with the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) to set up a €300,000 ($351,000) blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) grant support.

The new grant is focused on students considering data and interchanges technology (ICT), law, fund and building, and will be part more than three years. An agreement is signed by the University of Malta and Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA). Beginning this coming academic year, students can apply for the scholarship. The scholarship to complete Master’s and Ph.D. research and dissertations in blockchain and DLT.

The scholarship is available for the course with at least 30 ECTS credit directly related to DLT. The move comes in the midst of government efforts to draw in blockchain companies to Malta by guaranteeing adequate staffing limit locally. Silvio Schembri, the digital economy parliamentary secretary, said that he wants to see Maltese graduates holding vital posts in the field:

“These organizations require technical assets both to build and to operate by utilization of this technology. In addition experts in financial services, law, and managerial roles.”

University minister Alfred Vella said that the University of Malta is hoping to incorporate units relating to DLT, blockchain, digital currencies, artificial intelligence (AI), fintech, and regtech into a degree. Master’s programs in law, finance, ICT, and different fields. MITA executive chairman Tony Sultana said that the organization has been engaging comparative activities at other educational institutes.

Prof. Vella said the point of the review was to have educational programs. The programs would be in accordance with the government’s strategy to make Malta “the blockchain island”.

Malta is known for its crypto-friendly environment and its open efforts to end up the “blockchain island.” As reported by Times of Malta, last month, the Parliament of Malta passed three bills into law that establish a regulatory system for blockchain technology, making the island country a pioneer in giving a strong legitimate structure to blockchain organizations.

The University of Malta will help the blockchain island to develop. The agency will also be the main IT partner for the Delta Summit.
