Hey r/BTC, I recently revived r/DigitalMoney with the intention of creating a Subreddit where anyone’s voice can be heard, and any coin can be discussed.
With the rise of r/Bitcoin and r/Cryptocurrency, there’s been an unfortunate trend of censorship through banning those who go against the moderators' views. This has affected many great communities, including this one. I wanted to reach out to explain a bit about what makes this Subreddit different, and what we’re trying to achieve.
First, you may notice the presence of many types of content on the sub, sourced from other cryptocurrency subreddits. This is done via a bot which looks for the best performing threads from about 20 subreddits, and crossposts it, as well as some of the top-level comments, to r/DigitalMoney. This is designed to help percolate the best content from each subreddit, and transfers some comments so that discussion can continue outside of the reach of moderators who may wish to control narrative.
We envision a space where anyone can be critical of, or be a fan of, whichever cryptocurrency they believe in. We don’t think an adversarial approach will lead to the success of the space-- indeed we need to evolve past the toxic behaviors of the past to attract the kinds of users we all dream of. We believe r/DigitalMoney can be a place where any opinion can be heard without fear of reprisal. With that, we have a simplified set of rules intended to only remove hate speech and other toxic behavior toward others.
We’re also looking for a few more moderators which represent different communities. While the actual moderation will be low, we would like to show everyone that we have a diverse team with different points of view in order to reduce the potential for biased action. Let me know if you’re interested.
We hope to see you there!
