Japanese Singer Raises Awareness in regards to Cryptocurrency Trading

A Japanese singer and actress have assisted the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to raise awareness on cybersecurity issues, such as Bitcoin and cryptocurrency trading. She reportedly took on the responsibility of a cybersecurity manager in an occasion hosted by the department where members learned about cybercrime countermeasures.

Japanese actress and singer Rie Kitahara, formerly associated with the idol girl group Ngt48 and former member of Ske48 and Akb48. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Shinjuku Ward, hosted an event on August 26, where Kitahara tried to teach participants about actions against cybercrime. She played an important role as a department’s cybersecurity measure manager for the day. For 1800 visitors, companies, parents and their children attended the event. They got lessons related to fake websites and email phishing that try to giveaway individual information and how to protect themselves from these security threats.

Participants learned about the significance of countermeasures, such as a PC capture imitation experience and quizzes on cybersecurity. In 2017, the number of cases with cybercrime victims related to cryptocurrency trading has reported to the Metropolitan Police Department was 14000 which has been lessening overall, but the harm of illegal access to steal virtual currencies such as Bitcoin is simply growing.

Japanese Phishing Emails On The Increase

In January, crypto exchange Coincheck was hacked and 60 billion yen (~US$522 million) worth of the cryptocurrency NEM was whipped. It was later exposed that the hack might have caused by emails sent to the exchange’s employees to spread viruses.

The Council of Anti-Phishing Japan has distributed warnings regarding cryptocurrency trading phishing numerous times. Kaori Uemura, a spokeswoman for the council stated that they are working to increase the awareness of the public not to directly click the URLs indicated in the email. She added that receivers must reach out to a genuine contact at the crypto exchange apparently sent the email to verify its legitimacy.

According to the news published in Bitcoin News, the exchanges have decided to mutual cooperation, cybercrime reporting notification, criminal investigation cooperation, information sharing and actions to stop the extensive damage.
