Ohio Legislators Want To Open Gates For Blockchain Technology

Ohio legislative leaders want the state to be a pioneer in developing blockchain technology. However, they haven’t chosen how it ought to be incorporated into government activities.

Smith said blockchain at first could be utilized to store birth certificates, marriage licenses or other vital statics in a more secure way. But he said others aren’t prepared to propose enactment to move government records to a blockchain model.

Smith said this is the ideal opportunity to work with colleges so students graduate with abilities to work with blockchain and private businesses that need to utilize this technology.

“Since this is so new and this is simply beginning to fruition, we can position Ohio out front,” Smith said.

As reported by Cleveland, Smith specified potentially forming a committee to ponder the issue, and in the interim, he intends to proceed with talks with Ohio colleges and businesses anxious to attempt it. Cleveland businessman Bernie Moreno, who is leading an effort to make Cleveland a blockchain hub, was among those present at August 23 press conference.

Jim Korcykoski, Nationwide Insurance’s chief technology information security officer, said blockchain can possibly be “the internet of future.”
