New to bitcoin: I’m curious...

Before I start, I’m brand new to this and just looking for information. No biases just curious and looking to invest some spare cash. So..

Could someone explain to me your faith in BTC. It seems like the currency itself is somewhat useless in the real world market. Aside from the underlying technology of the blockchain, I’m unsure what is actually being invested in besides the assumption that it will just continue increasing. What is to keep bitcoin from becoming obsolete?
