Moving BCH from old bitcoin core wallet

Hey all, I am trying to figure out how to move my BCH from an old bitcoin core wallet into another wallet. Some background, all the bitcoin I received was from before the hard fork in 2017, nothing new since then. I have moved the entirety of the BTC out of the core wallet already, so it shows 0.000 bitcoins available, which makes sense. I also have a backup copy of the wallet.dat file from July 2017 if that helps.

From what I understand I can use Electron Cash as a wallet for BCH. I have that now, but I attempted to find out how to import my wallet.dat file in there and that's where I get stuck. It's just the portable .exe version if that makes any difference. When I go to New/Restore... and select the wallet.dat file it just says I can't read it.

What's the next step? I assume I need to get the addresses out of Core somehow, but will that even work if it shows 0 balance available now? Also are there any other forks since 2017 I should take advantage of?

Thanks!
