Lightning is still in alpha. When it rolls out to the world as "the way Bitcoin works now" then immediately the largest Lightning hub in the world by far is Coinbase, with by far the most users, channels, and liquidity.

Coinbase is required by law to AML/KYC all of its users.

Coinbase is required by law to adhere to certain rules as a licensed money transmitter, key among these is that Coinbase isn't allowed to route money for anonymous entities without being in violation of all kinds of laws.

Lightning Network employs onion routing so that Coinbase can't know whose money is being routed, or to whom.

What will Coinbase do?
