Blockchain and crypto technology, despite being relatively new, are sweeping across the industries. There is a rise in the number of colleges and universities that have been opening centers and groups for monitoring and conducting research into this new area of tech.
Apart from just research, many of these university-backed groups have also been voicing their support and advocating for a greater role for this digital format.
MIT Takes The Initiative
One of the earliest research group comes from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the premier tech universities around the globe. Launched here was the MIT Digital Currency Initiative (DCI), an initiative started in April 2015 with the goal of uniting global specialists in this technology and to promote research into it.
The DCI’s efforts are channeled primarily into the areas of autonomous electric microgrids, crypto education, and verification protocols.
Other University-Based Initiatives
Apart from the DCI, there have been many other noteworthy research groups raised in the halls of prestigious universities. Stanford University initiated a center for researching into blockchain technology two months ago. Its self-proclaimed goal was to “support the thriving ecosystem by developing new technologies needed to advance the field.” This can be seen with other notable research groups.
In the U.K, a similar research laboratory was opened at the University of Edinburgh in early 2017. In Denmark, the IT University of Copenhagen also initiated a center for researching into the blockchain, the European Blockchain Center, as reported by Coin Telegraph
Given the anticipation and success that crypto technology and blockchains have had in the business field, these university-backed research groups will play a role in furthering the reach of this technology and helping to touch a more group of people.
