Blockchain startups and companies are hiring Nobel laureates to make blockchain’s future more attractive to the audience. It is because cryptocurrency has lost its sheen now and hence the blockchain bases fear that the direction may soon turn in their direction. That is why they have decided to use the latest secret weapon of hiring exclusive intellectuals who have won Nobel in their respective fields.
The latest startup to announce a partnership with a Nobel intellectual is Covee Network which has hired Alvin Roth, the most reputed market design and game-theory expert. He won Nobel Prize for economics in 2012. Prysm Group has roped in Oliver Hart from the Harvard University. He won the Nobel Prize in 2016. Similarly, Cryptic Labs LLC is partnering with Christopher Pissarides (2010 Nobel Prize winner) and Eric Maskin (Nobel Prize winner in 2007).
All these companies are hiring the topmost brains to ensure that they help the blockchain companies come up with well-defined innovations and applications that have massive potential and utility for industries. Until last year, the term blockchain attracted a lot of attention. But now the technology does not exude as much glamor which is why startups in the field are hiring big names to succeed and move ahead.
An important question is whether these laureates really contributing to improving blockchain’s future or not. Are they really engaged in the projects to which their name is associated? According to Roth, “When I was first approached about joining, I spent a good deal of time thinking about whether I would just be a decoration, or whether I would actually be able to contribute. They are embracing game theory as a way of incentivizing participation.”
Roth decided to take a plunge in the Covee project because he thought that he could introduce his unique skills to it, said Bloomberg. According to the Chief Executive Officer of Covee, Marcel Dietsch, the seriousness of his team and its existing relationships with others distinguish his network from others. That is why he believes they were successful at roping in a big talent like Roth, said Business Standard.
While discussing blockchain’s future, Dietsch stated that serious thinkers believe that the blockchain sector is growing up.
