Chilean Deputies Introduce Blockchain-Based Resolution To Bring Regulation In Information Storage

Two deputies from Chile recently presented a blockchain-adoption resolution for proper regulation of information at the lower house of its Parliament (Camara de Diputados). The MPs Giorgio Jackson and Miguel Angel Calisto and a team of eight other Members of Parliament presented the resolution and appealed to the Chilean President Sebastian Pinera to implement the blockchain technologies across all the public areas of the nation.

The deputies want the parliament to adopt the security and energy applications based on blockchain across the entire South American country. The proposal from Jackson and Calisto was first registered in August 2018 as reported by Fortin Mapocho, the local news website. The document also suggests the need to conduct studies on how blockchain-based energy and security solutions can benefit the country.

While presenting the resolution in front of the parliament, Jackson put forth a recent Chilean Economic Prosecution office report that says that the maintenance of notaries is way too expensive for the government. According to Jackson, storing data on blockchain’s decentralized system can help reduce these costs significantly.

Calisto stated that adoption of blockchain technology will ensure proper regulation and accuracy of all the stored information of the government. Prior to registering this proposal, the Chilean Central Bank’s president, Mario Marcel Cullell in May this year stated that the bank is thinking of coming up with cryptocurrency regulation in Chile. According to him, increased regulation could contribute to better monitoring of risks including money laundering and terrorist financing, said Cointelegraph.

Reports indicate that apart from Chile, its neighboring South American nations are also beta testing blockchain usage for public administration. In July 2018, Argentina declared that it is forming a federal blockchain system back, said The Santiago Times. Similarly, the Brazilian government is also planning to use the Ethereum blockchain platform for its popular public petitions.

Chile is one of the few Latin American countries which are ready to take risks for implementing blockchain resolution to ensure proper regulation of data and information. The country has already taken bolder steps and faster bets so that it can incorporate the blockchain-powered solutions in the government’s working.
