Crypto Exchange Coinbase’s Institutional Platform Head Adam White Quits

Adam White, Institutional Platform Head, Coinbase crypto exchange quits.

Crypto exchange Coinbase’s Institutional Platform group head, Adam White quits the company. A Coinbase spokesperson mentioned via email that it was quite sad to see White quit the company. He, however, expressed confidence in the exchange’s ability to continue executing on the vision laid down by White, to become the most trusted venue for institutional investors to trade virtual currencies.

White’s exit came at a critical time for the exchange while it is striving to lock in other institutional customers and large clients like hedge funds after becoming a leading exchange for retail investors. Before quitting the company, White held the position of the Vice President and General Manager of the institutional business.

Coinbase announced on October 4 that the former Chief Executive Officer of Instinet, Jonathan Kellner will be replacing White and join as the Managing Director of the firm’s institutional business. He would be taking over most of White’s responsibilities.

White joined crypto exchange Coinbase in 2013. At that time the founders were operating out of a one-bedroom apartment and Bitcoin was trading at around $200. In December 2017, Bitcoin peaked at almost $20,000 and has recently been trading at around $6,500.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said in an email that over the last five years, Adam White helped to transform their exchange business to become the largest U.S.-based crypto-trading venue. He further added that Adam White’s contribution was integral to scale their culture to multiple offices and grow Coinbase’s global presence, as reported on Bloomberg.

White also has the experience of working with the U.S. Air Force, as a Flight-Test engineer. Prior to joining Coinbase, he was working at Bain & Company as a consultant. White served in the role of Vice President of Business Development & Product Management for Coinbase from 2013-2016.

Jonathan Kellner who will be replacing White at the Coinbase crypto exchange, has the experience of working at Morgan Stanley and Charles Schwab, Investment Technology Group, before working as the CEO of Instinet. White’s exit comes just a few days after the exchange announced that Chris Dodds would be joining the company’s Board of Directors, as stated in the Bitcoinist report.
