"In v1.3.6, Sia will be releasing hardfork code which bricks the Bitmain and Innosilicon ASICs, but continues to allow Obelisk ASICs to mine on the Sia network. This revokes the Innosilicon monopoly and instates Obelisk as the incumbent ASIC monopoly." Source: https://blog.sia.tech/sia-proof-of-work-reset-24b5ec439625
Correct me if I am wrong, but Sia developers is basically changing the codes to give their inferior mining products an unfair advantage by breaking Bitmain/Innosilicon superior mining machines. This seems centralization at its best if a small group of people can do whatever the hell they want.
More importantly, I hope this can be a advance lesson or warning to BTC miners. Blockstream (centralized BTC developers) can one day decide to do the same to other BTC miners, and since they had been openly hostile to BTC miners before, I think it is only a matter of time before they do it. Just a friendly warning. =)
