The word 'altcoin' needs to go from crypto vernacular. The term is only used by BTC Supremacists. BTC is no longer the original Bitcoin - Its also an altcoin. Altcoins are just crypto coins.

The original Bitcoin wasn't meant to be just an onramp for LN and Liquid. It has changed from the original project goal. Therefore it is an altcoin by definition.
