Oracle developers are planning to use blockchain applications for tracking and improving the brewing supply chain. As per reports, the Oracle is having a Code One conference in San Francisco this month and its developers are expected to be busy attending keynotes and networking and taking detailed information about the Bay Area beer from the Alpha Acid Brewing Co. Incidentally, the presence of Alpha Acid booth at the conference is not for showcasing that it is a beer made from fresh local ingredients.
Rather the focus will be more on the blockchain-based application of Oracle which the beer company is currently beta testing for tracking and improving the brewing supply chain process. The conference will take place between October 22 and October 25. The microbrewery and taproom of Alpha Acid are located in the Belmont’s industrial park, near to the massive headquarters of Oracle in Redwood City. The microbrewery of Alpha Acid uses small, internet-enabled sensors for measuring the temperature of fermentation tanks that are filled with the beer of Kyle Bozicevic.
The Oracle developers log these temperature readings and store it in the Oracle cloud. These readings are stored along with the data that comes from the Gilroy farm at World Ales which supplies hops to Bozicevic. Other data that is also stored on the Oracle cloud is from the Gigayeast, which is a yeast lab from where the company gets its yeast supplies and also Admiral Maltings, the malthouse providing malt to Bozicevic.
The blockchain application from Oracle will track the transactions between all the players that are involved in this supply chain from the producers of ingredients to the point of sale, said Eater San Francisco. According to the Mobile and Cognitive Experience (MCX) leader at Oracle for Africa, Turkey, and the Middle East, Craig Nel, blockchain is the most disruptive emerging technologies of today’s times.
The Oracle developer’s leader stated that despite growing popularity people have limited understanding of blockchain, said Intelligent CIO. He believes that the business use cases even now have a high-level view with very little clarity on the central aspects of the subject. The new development from Oracle to streamline the supply chain tracking will definitely introduce more clarity about blockchain in the beverages industry.
