60 Percent Life Science Organizations Experimenting On Blockchain Technology Innovation

Life Sciences And Pharmaceutical Industry Struggling To Succeed With Blockchain Innovation Technology

60 percent of life science organizations are now experimenting on blockchain technology innovation. Even though many companies in the field are adopting blockchain, the lack of properly trained staff is putting jerks in the development of this technology in the life science industry.

According to a recent survey conducted on the adoption of blockchain-enabled solutions in life sciences and pharmaceutical industries, 60 percent of professionals in the pharmaceutical and life sciences field are either currently using blockchain or experimenting with the technology. The survey conducted by an international, non-profit alliance working towards lowering barriers to innovation in the field of life sciences, Pistoia Alliance reveals that out of the 60 percent trying or using blockchain, 40 percent are still not implementing it or even now do not have any plans to implement blockchain.

It should be noted that investment and interest of life sciences and pharmaceutical companies in blockchain in 2017 was 22 percent. And one of the major reasons of disinterest of these companies to adopt blockchain is lack of access to skilled people in the field of blockchain (55 percent). Some companies even believe that blockchain is very difficult to understand.

While discussing the implementation of blockchain technology innovation in the field of life sciences and pharmaceuticals, the President of The Pistoia Alliance, Dr. Steve Arlington said that they must ensure access to skilled people in the field so that the blockchain projects in pipeline become successful. He stressed on the fact that the life sciences industry must particularly try hard to fill up this lack of blockchain talent gap, said Pistoia Alliance.

According to Arlington, the blockchain technology provides an additional protection for organizations and scientists and hoped that the security benefits of blockchain can contribute to a lessening of reticence over transferring or sharing data/information.

Discussing the blockchain innovation technology implementations, Pistoia Alliance consultant, Dr. Richard Shute said, “As life science and pharmaceutical organizations are beginning to look at implementing or experimenting with blockchain, The Pistoia Alliance is working hard to inform organizations on how to implement it safely and effectively.” Shute further added that they are now more interested in educating the researchers and scientists about the usages of blockchain technology, outside the supply chain, said Pharma field.
