Agricultural Commodities News: India Expecting Bumper Grape Yield This Year

As Per Latest Agricultural Commodities News, India Expects Bumper Grape Harvest This Year

Our Country’s expectation for bumper grape yield this year is one of the latest agricultural commodities news. Even though grapes would start seeping into the domestic market from November 2018, peak arrivals of the fruit are expected only from January 2019.

Maharashtra, the largest producer and exporter of grapes, have already started harvesting early season grapes. India has chances to witness bumper grape production and record exports of the fruit owing to the favorable weather.

Vilas Shinde, Chief Executive Officer of Sahyadri Farms, the largest corporate exporter of grapes in India, said that the weather has been highly favorable so far and we are expecting a bumper grape this year. However, he worries whether the grapes prices in the domestic market could be under pressure during the peak season.

Though we could start seeing grapes in the domestic market from November this year, the ultimate arrivals of grapes can be seen only from January 2019.

However, few farmers from Nashik district, the wine capital of India, have harvested early season grapes for sales to northern states and for exports to Bangladesh.

Our Country’s grape export story has been accomplishing a new milestone every year in the agricultural commodities news. This is because of our farmers’ adherence to the strict phytosanitary measures recommended by the European Union for cultivating the fruits.

According to Jagannath Khapre, President, Grape Exporters Association of India, India anticipates exporting at least the same quantity of grapes as exported during the past year in case of no measures or weather-related deviation.

Our Country has exported about 92,286 tonnes of grapes in the financial year 2017-2018 to European Union, while about 1,01,789 tonnes of grapes in the year 2016-17, as reported on The Economic Times.

Sahyadri Farms, the farmer-producer company, Mahindra Agribusiness and Freshtrop Fruits are the corporates involved in grape exports in India.

India’s exports of fresh fruits jumped by 40 percent due to the sharp increase in the production of grapes, based on the agricultural commodities news reported in February 2017 on Business Standard.
