Crypto Exchange Bittrex Decides To Retire Three Wallets: BTS, BTG And BTCP

Crypto exchange Bittrex has decided to remove BTS, BTG and BTCP wallets.

Crypto exchange Bittrex shared an official announcement on October 6 that it has decided to retire three wallets – Bitshares (BTS), Bitcoin Gold (BTG) and Bitcoin Private (BTCP) from its platform. It added that wallet removals are part of a routine of their ongoing platform management for operational efficiency and performance.

The exchange mentioned in its statement that the wallets will be closed on November 5, 2018, and any assets left on the exchange platform after the stipulated deadline will be unrecoverable. The exchange stated that none of these coins have active markets on Bittrex presently. It allowed traders to hold their coins on the platform until now, even though they can’t currently trade these coins.

It seems strange that crypto exchange Bittrex is not trading BTG and BTS, as both these coins are among the top 50 cryptocurrencies by market cap and are listed on other large exchanges like Binance. The issues prevailing with these coins explain why Bittrex decided not to trade them.

After Bitcoin Gold witnessed one of the largest 51 percent attacks in cryptocurrency history, Bittrex originally delisted BTG in September 2018. Bittrex asked BTG to recover the 12,372 BG that it lost during the hacking attack. But BTC declined the request and thus it was delisted from Bittrex.

Bittrex delisted BitShares way back in 2017 when the exchange claimed that running a BTS node was too challenging and it wasn’t worth the operating cost. As Bitcoin Private was airdropped to BTC holders in February, the exchange seemingly never had trading pairs for the same, as stated in the CryptoGlobe report.

Crypto exchange Bittrex stated in its official release that in order to withdraw their tokens, the users need to login to the website and then click “Wallets”. After that, they need to look for the impacted wallet and then click the “Withdrawal” button. However, if the balance in a user’s account is below the minimum withdrawal amount for the wallet, they won’t be able to withdraw. In case users have any issues while withdrawing before the November 5 deadline, they should immediately file a support ticket, as stated on its website.
